I use MetaMask on an hourly/daily basis, and for the most part, it works very well. I am a fan of the new update, especially the jazzed-up UI. It appears the MetaMask team is working hard to deliver a quality product for its users, which has one of the largest user base on the Ethereum network. As of This month (November) MetaMask reached 1.3 million users. That is an impressive feat for any decentralized project in this space.

TL;DR

  1. Want to cancel an order on the Ethereum blockchain
  2. Get an error message that includes “nonce too low”
  3. Go to MetaMask desktop client
  4. Switch from Main Ethereum Network to Ropsten Test Network
  5. Let page reload, then switch back to Main Ethereum Network
  6. Cancel order

With the new update and the jazzed-up UI, there seems to also be errors that pop up more frequently. This is to be expected with any tech product in its infancy, especially within the ever so young crypto/blockchain space.

The error that I got that initially halted my trading was “nonce too low”. There was actually a lot of other programming jargon, but that was the line that translated to me. As anyone in the tech space knows, when you run into an issue, you google it. I found myself on Medium, Stack Exchange and Reddit. To no avail, I could not fix the problem. I was in luck though.

I am fortunate enough to work with a very talented team that is actively building on the Ethereum blockchain. I threw up a screenshot of the error message in our company Telegram. One dev, Dan Shapiro, was quick to suggest a solution. Ironically enough, that night I got the same error, successfully implemented the recommended solution, and was back to trading in no time.

I think it is important for those of us that are active in the crypto/blockchain community to share solutions to roadblocks that we experience. This will ensure that the community will progress and grow. I hope you found this article helpful. Feel free to hit the claps a few times and subscribe to the Ethex blog.
